While my background is rooted in supporting people through the complexities of the healthcare and community sectors, I have seen firsthand that true wellness requires more than just managing symptoms — it requires restoring the spirit.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing on all levels - mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us. When this energy is high and flowing freely, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
During a session, I act as a conduit for this energy. Through a series of light, non-invasive touches (or by hovering my hands just above the body), I help to clear energetic "blockages" and recalibrate your nervous system.
The Benefits: Why "Hold Space" for Reiki?
Reiki is a complementary practice that works beautifully alongside traditional medical or psychological treatments. Because it shifts the body from a "fight or flight" state into a "rest and digest" state, the benefits can be profound:
Deep Relaxation: Easing the physical tension that often accompanies chronic health conditions or the "burnout" of caregiving.
Emotional Release: Providing a safe container to process grief, anxiety, or the "heavy" emotions that we often store in our bodies.
Mental Clarity: Quieting the mental chatter and "brain fog" often associated with long-term stress or mental health challenges.
Pain Management: Many clients find that by relaxing the nervous system, the intensity of physical pain or discomfort is softened.
Improved Sleep: By signaling to the brain that it is safe to let go, Reiki often leads to deeper, more restorative rest.
What does it mean to be a conduit?
I don’t use my own energy: Drawing on my background, I know that burnout happens when we give too much of ourselves. As a Reiki Practitioner, I don’t give you my energy; I simply open the gate to a universal source.
Is it right for me?
Reiki is for anyone who feels "full"—full of stress, full of responsibility, or full of the physical toll of a health journey. Whether you are navigating a disability, supporting a loved one through aging, or simply seeking a moment of profound peace, Reiki offers you a place where nothing is expected of you.
Before my 15 years in community services, I began my career as a Veterinary Nurse. This foundational experience gave me a deep understanding of animal anatomy, behavior, and the silent way animals communicate their needs.
Animals are incredibly sensitive to energy. Unlike humans, they don't have a 'skeptical mind' — they simply feel the shift in the room. Animal Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive way to support our pets through physical illness, anxiety, or the transitions of aging.
How Animal Reiki Helps:
Post-Surgical Recovery: Accelerating the body’s natural healing process after a vet procedure.
Anxiety & Trauma: Calming "rescue" animals or those with separation anxiety or noise phobias.
End-of-Life Comfort: Providing a peaceful, dignified "energetic bridge" for elderly animals in palliative care.
How a Session Works (The "Animal-Led" Approach):
In my practice, the animal is the boss. Sessions can be done in-person (at your home) or via Distance Reiki.
Observation: I use my veterinary nursing background to observe the animal’s comfort levels.
Invitation: I don’t force touch. I offer the energy from a distance and let the animal choose to move closer.
The Shift: You will often see the animal yawn, sigh, or fall into a deep sleep as the energy begins to flow.
Collaboration: I work alongside your Veterinarian’s care plan, never as a replacement for medical diagnosis.
During my time in the community sector, I’ve learned that sometimes the greatest barrier to care is the journey itself. Whether you are managing a chronic health condition that makes leaving home difficult, or you have a pet that feels safest alone in its own bed, Distance Reiki allows the "flow" to reach you exactly where you are.
How does it work?
If we look at the forest metaphor, think of Distance Reiki like the "Wood Wide Web." Just as trees communicate and share nutrients through an invisible underground network, energy is not restricted by physical space.
As a practitioner, I use my focus and intent to connect with your energetic "signature." During a scheduled session, I hold the same sacred space for you as I would if you were lying on my table.
Why choose a Distance Session?
Accessibility: Ideal for those with mobility challenges, disability, or those who are frail or aged and for those who prefer the comfort of their own home.
Pet Comfort: Many animals (especially cats or anxious rescues) are much more receptive to Reiki when they don't have a new person in their physical space.
Integration: You can go straight from your session into a nap or a bath without having to navigate traffic or a commute.
Global Reach: No matter where your "forest" is located, we can connect.
What to Expect during a Distance Session:
The Connection: At our scheduled time, we will have a brief check-in via phone or message.
The Preparation: You (or your pet) find a quiet, comfortable place to lie down. I recommend dimming the lights and playing soft music.
The Flow: For the duration of the appointment, I will conduct the Reiki session from my studio. You may feel waves of warmth, tingling, or a deep sense of peace — just as you would in person.
The Closing: I will send you a short message or email after the session with any intuitive insights or "forest notes" that arose during the flow.
One of the most profound aspects of Reiki is that it is self-guiding. In my years as a Vet Nurse and in community services, I have learnt that, while we can provide the best possible environment for healing, the body ultimately does the work. Reiki operates on this same principle, but with its own "inner compass."
Reiki Goes Where It Is Needed Most
Think of Reiki like water flowing into a forest. If there is a parched patch of earth or a thirsty root system, the water naturally finds those low points first.
You don't have to "direct" it: Even if you come in with a sore shoulder, the Reiki might "flow" to your heart first if you are carrying unspoken grief. It prioritizes the root cause over the symptom.
It bypasses the ego: We might think we know what we need, but the energy speaks directly to the subconscious and the physical body, working on a level that our logical minds can’t always reach.
The "Silent Conversation"
Because Reiki has its own intelligence, the healing happens in a silent conversation between the energy and your (or your pet’s) unique system.
For Humans: It settles the nervous system in the exact way you need—whether that’s a deep, restorative sleep or a sudden moment of mental clarity.
For Animals: This is why Reiki is so effective for pets. They don't need to understand the "theory" to benefit from it. Their bodies are naturally open, allowing the intelligence of the Reiki to soothe their specific anxieties or physical discomforts without us needing to "tell" the energy what to do.
While Reiki feels like a gentle "forest breeze," its impact on the human nervous system is deeply rooted in science. Today, Reiki is recognised as a powerful complementary therapy — working alongside traditional medicine to enhance the body's natural ability to heal.
Where You’ll Find Reiki Today
Reiki is no longer "alternative"—it is integrative. In Australia and across the globe, it is utilised in hospitals and clinics to support patients through their most challenging moments.
In Australia: Programs at Fiona Stanley Hospital (WA), Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (WA), and The Mater (North Sydney) have integrated Reiki to assist with oncology support and palliative care.
Global Reach: Over 800 hospitals in the US (including the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins) offer Reiki as part of their patient care services.
Peer-Reviewed Research: Studies published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine have shown that Reiki is effective in activating the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering heart rates, and reducing cortisol (the stress hormone).
Why the Medical World Trusts It
As a former Vet Nurse and Community Worker, I value things that are safe and non-invasive. Reiki is "clean" healing:
No Contraindications: It does not interfere with medications or medical procedures.
Touch-Optional: It can be performed with light touch or no touch at all, making it perfect for post-operative recovery or those with sensory sensitivities.
Holistic Stabilisation: It addresses the anxiety and pain perception that often slow down physical recovery.
