Before I became an Usui Reiki Practitioner, my path took me through two very different, yet deeply connected woods.
Starting my career in Veterinary Nursing, I learnt the art of listening to the silent language of animals. In this clinical setting, I mastered the skill of reading heartbeats, decoding body language and providing deep comfort when words fell short. I’ve learnt that pain does not require a label to be felt, and words are not necessary for finding peace. Often, the most powerful medicine we can offer is simply a safe, quiet space for them to heal on their own terms.
A little while after, I transitioned into the community sector.
For over 15 years, I walked alongside individuals and their families navigating the complexities of disability, mental health, chronic conditions and aging. I have seen the resilience of the human spirit in the face of emotional and physical pain and the quiet strength of those who are frail. I became an expert at navigating the "system" while witnessing how often the "system" leaves people feeling like a weathered tree in a storm - strong, but dangerously dry at the roots.
My journey through the community sector taught me that while medicine and systems can support the body, the soul often needs a different kind of tending. I transitioned into Reiki to offer what the system often cannot: a sacred pause.
From Clinical to Holistic
I have spent over two decades navigating the physical and bureaucratic realities of health and support. Now I’m addressing the energetic and emotional “undercurrents” that those systems often overlook.
Trauma-informed Presence
With deep-rooted experience in mental health, I have an intuitive sense of when someone’s nervous system is overwhelmed. This allows me to create a reiki environment that feels exceptionally safe and grounded.
Compassion Fatigue Recovery
Many practitioners move into energy work as a way to heal themselves after years of 'giving' in demanding sectors, and I am one of them. Backed by my lived experience as a family carer, my practice is infused with the wisdom of someone who understands the true cost of care from both sides of the system.
From Support to Source
My journey has evolved from “Holding space” in the community sector through support and advocacy, to becoming a Reiki Practitioner that is a conduit for that space. I have traded the clipboard for the light, with the heart of the work – witnessing life challenges and offering relief – still remaining the same.
My hands have bandaged paws and held the hands of those in crisis. Today, those same hands serve as a channel for the Flowing Forest.
I don't just 'perform' Reiki; I draw on over two decades of experience in trauma-informed care to create a sanctuary of safety. I understand the weight of a long-term diagnosis and the exhaustion of the caregiver. My practice is where my clinical understanding meets my energetic intuition, providing a space where you don’t have to 'manage' anything — you just simply have to be.
